Nerd Girl of Note #4 - A Timely One

Who is it? Amanda Tapping
Why do nerds love her? many years as Samantha Carter on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis
Nerd, or just loved by nerds? British born, Canadian resident who studied drama and environmental science... I am going to say nerd and loved by nerds.
Websites: Official Homepage

English born, but relocated to Canada at age three, Tapping studied drama and environmental sciences at North Toronto Collegiate Institute, then trasferred to University of Windsor School of Dramatic Arts and concentrated on drama. Before joining Stargate SG-1, she appeared in commercials and episodes of Outer Limits and The X-Files.

On Stargate, she portrayed Samantha Carter for all ten years of Stargate SG-1's run, and in a recurrng role on Stargate Atlantis for several years. As Carter Tapping won three Leo Awards for "Dramatic Series: Best Lead Performance - Female" in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Following four nominations in five years, Tapping won a Saturn Award in the category "Best Supporting Actress on Television" in 2005. Tapping was also nominated for a 2001 Gemini Award in the category "Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role".

Her latest role is Dr. Helen Magnus on the SciFi Channel series, Sanctuary, which premieres tonight at 9:00pm Eastern. This from the SciFi Channel's website:

"Sanctuary follows the adventures of the beautiful, enigmatic and always surprising Dr. Helen Magnus (Tapping), a brilliant scientist who holds the secrets of a clandestine population — a group of strange and sometimes terrifying beings that hide among humans."

So, it looks like it may be a sort of steam-punk version of Underworld. I'm in. I hope it is good!
