Giftmas Rundown: Oh, the horror!

Hammer Glamour is a coffee table book full of pictures and bios on many of Hammer Films' biggest female stars, including (of course) Valerie Leon, Ingrid Pitt, The Collinson Twins, Raquel Welch, Caroline Monroe, and Madeline Smith (cover), and many more. The book is of pretty good quality and has a lot of pictures I had not seen before.

So glad I got some Amazon gift cards for Giftmas, as no one in my family is cool enough to have bought this for me. ;-)

I picked up Hammer Glamour a while back, and while I'd definitely suggest it to anybody (it's absolutely gorgeous, and there's a lot of images in there I'd never seen before) I have a bone to pick with Marcus Hearn, who seems to think it's his job to defend the integrity of every actress he interviews in a really irritating and puritanical way as though everyone who ever appeared in a horror movie really wanted to be a critically acclaimed thespian and was held back by the Hammer system. Thankfully most of the actresses aren't nearly as hung up on this as he is, and are either deservedly proud of their work or are happy to admit it was basically a goof. And yeah, don't get me started on Madeline Smith...

Hi db — I have not really read any articles, save part of the M. Smith one. I can definitely see the author doing that, however. Being a nerd who believes there's always more than a pretty face, if I am at all interested, I am likely guilty of the same.

Ha ha, I used an Xmas Amazon gift card for this book too! Graces my coffee table this very moment; the cleavage of Madeline Smith are a delight and an inspiration every time I glance at it.

@Will - Excellent. I totally approve of giftcards being used for naughty purposes. Good to see someone from Raleigh. Wife is from there. We lived near Brier Creek for 8 years, or so. I miss it. Fayetteville is totally lacking in everything. :-)
