Nerd Girl of Note #52

Colonel Wilma Deering... There are so few reasons to revisit the 1979/1980 television show Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, but Erin Gray is definitely one of them. Along with Lynda Carter, I think she was one of my first real crushes.

Aside from Buck Rogers, Gray has been in numerous television shows, including Maude, The Rockford Files, Vega$, Magnum PI, The Fall Guy, Baywatch, and was a leading character in the snotty rich kid series Silver Spoons.

If you've never seen Buck Rogers in the 25th Century you can watch episodes on Fancast here.

She was part of a triumvirate of "super-hero" females that young males went ga-ga for in the 70s. Her, Lynda Carter and Lindsay Wagner were these amazing women who did amazing things. Awesome indeed.

And later, she was also Jason Voorhees sister in Jason Goes to Hell, in 1993. Not a great film, but she was still damn sexy.

I remember leafing through some old Sports Illustrated from the late '60's a few years back and being startled at seeing a young Erin modeling swimsuits in an article. She was smokin' hot back then too. And she's still gettin' it done toady.

Sigh...

Seeing her at WizardWorld this year was a highlight of my 2009. What a lovely woman. Buck Rogers came on when I was a year old, and she's been imprinted on me ever since.

@Wings - I haven't seen Jason/Hell. I kinda gave up at #3.

@Dr. Monkey - She just might be the white Pam Grier, in the aging gracefully department.

@SF - I have yet to meet any of my fan-boy idols. I almost drove to Cincinnati to see Yvonne Craig at some little comic con (I guess it was little).

She's definitely got that 70s sexiness going. *Sigh* They don't build 'em like that anymore...

@Vic - Next week will have the [ahem] big guns.

@Mickey - It was the Golden Age of lycra.

I feel like her great triumph as an actress is that she played the smart tough woman who was usually 90% wrong in the face of Buck's cheesy arrogant machismo, and yet she still comes across as the smarter of the two.

The few episodes I have watched recently she was kind of tame. They were season two, though I believe. I always wanted the swagger she shows in the opening credits. Walking through the battlefield. Hand on her blaster. Not everyone looks good in a helmet, but she pulls it off nicely ;-)

I am with Wings, she was someone who always looked good in pants like Lynda and Lindsay and was a definate 70s crush. I am glad she is tied to that time period forever in my mind because she has not changed all that much. I do bet, however, she has a hell of an autobiography to write. I am amazed that you could get a week or more worth of posts on Buck Rodgers IT25C. OMG...it's influencial!!!!!...that scares me.

The more I look into the show, the more it looks like a sci-fi Love Boat. There were a lot of people on it as guest stars who were either famous then, now, or were Hollywood lurkers that you see from time to time.

Had the biggest crush on her when I was a kid. And watching Buck Rogers eps when I got older...all I can say is that she is really HOT in my fav ep, Space Vampire.

Awesome site! I found you through TS Hendrick!

I remember her from Silver Spoons!

She is still very active in films and attends the San Diego Comic-con every year. She is always pleasant and fun to talk to. She is very accessible to the fans.

@Geof - I need to rewatch "Space Vampire" as it seems to get the most play on the web.

@asblackasobama - Glad you made it by.

@Lacey - That is always good to hear. It is always good to know stars who don't shun the fans of the things that made them famous.

Erin has a new connection to a new take on Buck Rogers. Check it out here @ Topless Robot

Holy carp! I just realized who the 'older gentleman' in the clip with her was!

I saw that on a blog, and completely forgot that I was going to repost. Danke for the link.

Ouch.

I always wonder how stars feel playing the parents of characters THEY were known for.

Erin actually looks better than that in person.

AND why in "Buck" so young???
He never was in any other incarnation. Is this a ScyFy network movie or something????
