April "Elvira" Wahlin was the winner of The Search for the Next Elvira, and was certainly a great choice. I'd say it is because she has the look down, but frankly when they did the final three's makeup they all looked incredibly like the original M.O.D. Just shows you how much artifice goes into the costume, and the personality is the important part. April had Elvira down. Her mannerisms and inflection were near perfect. You could tell she was a tad nervous at times, but was as close to the original as I have seen.Fortunately, it seems that April is quite the nerd in real life. On the show they had her show you through her apartment, and it was littered (nicely) with tons of horror and comic book stuff. I always like the Elvira character - campy, corny, busty and with that big 80s hairstyle. Now all those Jersey idiot girls have ruined it for me by basically co-oping this look for themselves. They are the reason we can't have anything slutty and nice. All we get is slutty and mean from them.

ReplyDeleteI tried watching an episode of that Jersey show and I just can't do it. I loved when the Next Search For Elvira showed April's apartment full of nerdy goodness.

ReplyDeleteWell, there is and there isn't. Cassandra Peterson still does the character, but I believe April Wahlin just does public appearances as Elvira. They were not really clear on what the deal was. Maybe they got into it on the final episode, but it was too typical of reality shows for me to get through. I'll have to finish it up sometime.

ReplyDeleteif you look up elvira on wikipedia (cassandra peterson) it mentions April and that she made only a few appearances in the one year that she worked officially as elvira. i think the only people who still do big time appearances are the two men who were judges with elvira on the show. those two were a trip. the mean one was always trashin on the girls about flat chests and he drew his on. the nice one wore a huge chest piece and was always being attacked by the mean one. it was really weird.
