Hotties of Yore: Orion Slave Girls

When I was a kid, I was not a Star Trek fan. Sure, when the movie came out, I liked it. Even had a poster (though Leonard Nimoy's eyes freaked me out... they followed you). Yes, Star Trek just could not compete with Star Wars, Battlestar Gallactica, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, and Flash Gordon. They had fire fights, dog fights, sword fights... I guess what it came down to was the fights.

Regardless of fandom, it was hard to avoid a familiarity with the Orion Slave Girl. As discussed in Nerd Girl of Note #1: Yvonne Craig, everyone knew about the green alien girl from Star Trek. Here are a few examples. First, and best, is Yvonne Craig.

Next we have a Slave Girl from the animated series, Vina (played by Susan Oliver) who was not in fact a real Orion Slave Girl, but rather an illusion, and a late edition, Navaar (played by Cyia Batten) from ST:ENT.

Many of you may not know this about me, but I hate Star Trek. (Ducks from thrown rocks) But I dearly love women who are painted green. So my emotions are tearing me apart right now!

Just think of the first set as Batgirl working undercover. :-)

I love GOSG, but in my book no-one can touch Vina (Susan Oliver) as the first we saw, real or not. She was the hottest thing ever seen on TV. But I know the one that you fall in love with is the one you see first, in your case, Craig.

For me it was Vina, she was the first and best in my ST book. The ones we saw in the series "Enterprise" looked hot, but their dancing scene was lame compared to the overwhelming hottieness of Vina's. Even the music was wimpy.

We saw one before those three, and another one in the Mirror universe episode as well. I think the total ia up to 8 we've seen now on the various shows, unless I'm missing one somewhere.

Looking forward to the 9th, the new green girl that Kirk bags in the upcoming movie!!!

Good to have you along Frederick. :-)

I wonder why sci fi cons like Dragoncon have dozens of Slave Leias but typically, only one or two Orion slave girls? Could the green body paint create problems for would-be Orion slave girl costume wearers? Or does Slave Leia have something the Orion slave girls don't? Slave Leia's time on film only constituted two minutes but she seems to be getting a lot more bang for the buck than the Orion slave girls.

I imagine the paint is the problem. I have seen a few on the intertubes, and they tend to get more normal flesh-colored in weird places like armpits :-)

I'd like to use this idea for a Halloween costume but don't have the first idea how to paint myself green. A lot of pics online make the chick look more like Princess Fiona in Shrek than the Orion Slave Girl. Any suggestions?

Yeah, the paint definitely seems to be an issue. Here is a link that has some info from people who have done it before. Hope it turns out well!

Using liquid latex, which can be found online at various fetish sites, in place of body paint, can solve the problem of paint smearing and disappearing through the night.

I recommend using the latex neck down, and using body paint on the face and neck, as you have more control when it comes to shading, makeup, etc.

As far as not looking like Princess Fiona, it's simply a matter of mixing the perfect color of green. Orion girls tend to be a more yellow-green, but adding some white in to make it less garish is a good idea. Also, the bellydancing outfit you'd don will help distinguish, as well as getting a great messy black wig. (Yes, slave girls can be redheads, blondes, etc., but the black hair is by far the most recognizable.)

Hope I've helped!

I've also just come across a BenNye body paint called Sallow Green, that's the perfect color. I've decided I'll be using it instead of the liquid latex this year. I did a test run, and despite running water over it, scrubbing it, rubbing it against denim, etc., it stayed on beautifully. I still recommend using a setting powder, even though this didn't seem to need it, just to be sure.
