One of the best openings in a movie: Princess Mononoke

I really like this movie. Princees Mononoke is a beautiful story about man and his world, but also about honor, love, loyalty, bravery... The beginning is really exciting, and sets the tone for the main character, Prince Ashitaka.

Princess Mononoke
The monster bursts from the woods. It is revealed to be a boar god which has been corrupted.

Princess Mononoke
Ashitaka tries to head the beast off. Pleading with it to spare his village.

Princess Mononoke
The girls are not home yet, and the monster sees an easier meal.

Princess Mononoke
One of the girls trips and falls.

Princess Mononoke
Ashitaka's sister plays her bad-ass card. This is one brave little girl.

Ashitaka shoot the beast in the eye, stopping it... briefly.

Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke
The beast, finally dead, is asked forgiveness from the village matriach.

Love this movie. It was the first one to get me into Japanese Annimation and led me to Akira and many others. Thanks for reminding me of it.

It is a real fav of mine. If you have not seen Naussica, Valley of the Wind (I think I spelled that correctly), it is worth checking out. Similar theme to Mononoke. An early work by Miazaki. Beautifully done and a similar high-fantasy/high-tech (semi-Steampunk, you might say) setting.

you know, I have never seen Princess Mononoke. It has been on my list for awhile but I just never got around to watching it. I am not a huge Anime fan but I have heard really good things about this one so I've wanted to see it. I'll have to move it up the Netflix Queue and check it out.

Miyazaki is just barely anime. Also good are Nausicca: Valley of the Wind, and Spirited Away, though I have not seen one I don't like.

Both of those are on my Netflix Queue as well, just haven't gotten around to renting them yet.
