Nerd Girl of Note #119 - Wendy O Williams

Punk Rocker, Metal Maiden, Exploitation Star; Wendy O Williams. If you are my age-ish (41, btw), you might have never heard a Plasmatics or W.O.W. song, but you probably had at least seen and/or heard of Wendy. She was a favorite of Gene Simmons, Joey Ramone, and Lemmy Killmeister. Frankly, her antics were more over-the-top than any rocker since. Many may know her from Tom De Simone's Reform School Girls, playing Charlie Chamblis the HBIC.

I was never a Plasmatics fan, but was always fascinated by Wendy O. The picture tot the right was from Creem magazine, and I remember having that issue. Years later on this blog I still have that fascination, and included Wendy in "My Zombie Fighting Dream Team"

Wendy killed herself in 1998. It was, I assume, her third attempt. It's a shame, but I don't judge. She was a vegetarian and animals rights activist, and in my opinion completely awesome.

I like Wendy I think there no one is out there in the music industry with that kind of "attitude" before and after her.

@TRT - I was never familiar with her music until Reform School Girls.

@ETV - she definitely had the most "fuck you" of fuck you attitudes :-)

She was also the namesake for Wendy O. Koopa.

Love her! Wendy was a true rock goddess and a huge heroine of mine. Proof that you can be sexy, strong and scary to the status quo.

I checked out your zombie fighting team and saw that I had made an awesome comment all the way back in 2009. Oh those were heady times back then.

Wendy was one of the first really outrageous video personalities when the age of video began. I remember her well.
